According to the programme syllabus The principal rule for access to a higher semester is that the student may have at most 15 credits remaining from the previous semester. Passed course in Structure and function of the organ systems, with oral anatomy
Objectives
After the course, the student should be able to account, at a general level, for general medical diseases, the principles of general surgery and medical nutrition. be able to formulate, record and evaluate a health declaration. be able to interpret and evaluate information in the dental patient's health declaration. know and understand the value of medical sampling and analysis. be able to account for medical diseases that imply an increased risk for complications in connection with a dental treatment. be able to account for medical diseases where the disease can pose a risk for the treating dentist. be able to account for medical diseases with oral findings or symptoms which should lead to referral for internal medical assessment. be able to recognise important emergency medical conditions. be able to take relevant measures in medical complications during dental treatment.
Content
Lectures in general medicine, including basic internal medicine, general surgery, medical nutrition, dermatology, psychiatry, ear, nose, throat, geriatrics and infection. "the Health declaration" is discussed during group seminars and theme days. Sampling, test analyses and allergy tests are demonstrated in groups. Lectures in general medicine with dental orientation including medical risk patients in the dentist chair, medical risks for the dentist and tests of interest to the dentist. Theme days with dental orientation including diseases with oral manifestations. The lectures are given in collaboration with the courses oral pathology and pharmacology.
Teaching methods
Lectures, demonstrations, laboratory sessions, seminars and theme days. Demonstrations and laboratory sessions are compulsory. Missed examinations should be compensated by a make-up assignment from the course provider.
Examination
Examination is carried out through written examination. If the student's examination has not passed, the student gets 2 more examination opportunities. After that, the student is recommended to retake the course and is given 3 more examination opportunities. If the student has not passed after 6 trials, he/she has no more admission to the course. (HF chapter 6, section 11 a).
Transitional provisions
If the course is closed-down or undergoes major changes, examination under a previous reading list and learning outcomes are offered, no more than one academic year (no more than 2 examinations in addition to regular examinations) after the implementation of the revision/close-down.

Course evaluation is carried out according to the guidelines established by the Board of education. The course replaces TLOA07
