Degree project in work and health, 15 credits

Admitted to the Masters program in work and health. In addition 22,5 credits in completed courses within the main field of work and health of which 7.5 credits in scientific methods is required.

The aims of the course are that the student should have deepened his knowledge and his ability within the disciplinary domain work and health by carrying out and presenting an independent scientific work in the form of an empirical study, a method study or a case study with relevance for the disciplinary domain of work and health.

Knowledge and understanding
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
• show knowledge of the disciplinary domain including both an overview of the area and specific knowledge on the chosen subject area.
• show advanced knowledge in scientific methodology with relevance for the own degree project

Skills and abilities
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

within a given time frame, under supervision, plan, carry out, and in writing and orally present a degree project.
• show ability to systematically search, critically review and interpret information as a basis for the degree project
• apply research-ethical principles and guidelines
• identify, formulate, analyse, reflect and assess problems with relevance for the disciplinary domain
• choose, discuss and argue for choices of research design and method

Assessment ability and attitudes
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
• show knowledge and understanding for the implication of research-ethical principles and guidelines
• discuss and argue for the scientific and practical relevance of the own work in relation to own and other professions

The contents of the course

• identification and demarcation of relevant scientific issue
• systematic search and critical review of information
• collection, analysis and compilation of data
• research-ethical considerations
• writing an independent scientific work
• presentation and defence of degree project
• Critical oral review on other student's degree project

The teaching methods of the course consist of, under supervision (that can take place individually or in groups), plan, carry out and report an independent scientific work in the form of a empirical study, a method study or a case study with relevance for the disciplinary domain. Campus teaching in the form of seminars and supervision, individually and in groups, occur.

At the examination seminars, attendance is compulsory according to below:

1. Own oral presentation and thesis defence of the own degree project.
2. Critical oral review and discussion of another student's degree project.
3. Participation at presentation of at least three other degree projects.

In case of absence from compulsory parts, turn to the course director.

Examination consists of presentation and defence of an independently written degree project with relevance for the disciplinary domain, and of a critical review and discussion of another student's degree project. The written degree project, the thesis defence and the critical oral review should include all expected learning outcomes in the course. The examination is assessed from both the written degree project, the active thesis defence and the critical oral review.

The grading scale is Fail/Pass/Pass with distinction. To obtain the grade Passed on the course, the grade Pass on the written degree project, thesis defence and the critical oral review is required. To obtain the grade Passed with distinction on the course, Passed with distinction grade on the written degree project and on the thesis defence is required.

Compulsory attendance
To obtain the grade passed on the course, attendance in compulsory parts is required. The course director assesses if, and in that case how absence can be compensated. Before the student has participated in all compulsory parts or compensated absence in accordance with the course director's instructions, the student's results for the course/respective part will not be registered in LADOK.

Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible close-down of the course. Examination can take place according to an earlier literature list during a time of one year after the date when a renewal of the literature list been made.

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines established by the Board for education and also according to evaluation routines within the Master's programme (one-year) in work and health.
