Objectives
The aims of the course are that the student shall: - understand the applied part of health economics. - know how to apply the health economic concepts and tolls. - know the processes concerning health and health care. - know how to perform measurement of health status. - know how to perform an economic evaluation of health care programs.
Content
This module is aimed to provide knowledge of practical uses of health economics. At the same time participants will learn to implement the theories of health economics. The students will learn data analysis on measurement of health (for instance, quality adjusted life years), demand for health, measurement of inequality in health. Apart from these societal perspectives they will vividly learn how to perform economic evaluation of health care programs. Using computer software, they will learn basic skills of economic evaluation according to the industry needs. After this module, the students will learn about practical applications of the theoretical health economics from both societal and industrial points of views. Specific topics taught in this course Measurement of inequality, Measurement of health, Data envelop analysis, Economic evaluation.

Lectures, seminars, computer and class room assignments.
Examination
Submission of individual and group assignments.
Transitional provisions
The course is cancelled. Examination under the syllabus is offered until Spring 2012 for students who do not complete the course successfully
