Specific entry requirements

Bachelor of science or professional qualification of at least 180 credits within health care, biomedicine, technology, data and software engineering or informatics. Furthermore, knowledge in English equivalent to English B (with at least the Pass grade) is required.

Objectives

Knowledge and understanding - On completion of the course, the student should be able to: • describe the subject health informatics as an academic discipline and its practical application in health care and historical account and development of the subject • illustrate different health informatics applications within care, nursing and research • account for the role that health informatics play in the health care of today Skills and ability - The student should, on completion of the course, be able to: • function in an interdisciplinary cooperation and in international/multi-disciplinary constellations Assessment ability and attitudes - On completion of the course, the student should be able to: • analyse and assess the need of information and advanced knowledge within care, nursing and research • develop and explain international perspective for health informatics as discipline

Content

The course describes the subject health informatics and its main aims and the challenges – present-day and future. The course gives an overview of different professional roles that a health informatics person may have partly depending on area in clinical medicine, technical development, or research. In a project work, the students should develop an international perspective on the subject and reflect on their career possibilities.

Teaching methods

Lectures – Demonstrations, Group assignment – Seminars (international/interdisciplinary working groups, survey current international/regional/local health informatics projects and professional organisations in the subject area and the career possibilities)

Examination

Oral presentation – 1 credits (Fail/Pass) Written assignment – 4 credits (A-F) Compulsory participation: Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions Students who have not passed the regular examination are entitled to participate in five more examinations. If the student is not approved after four examinations, he/she is recommend to retake the course at the next regular course date, and may, after that, participate in two more examinations. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission is provided. The number of times that the student has participated in one and the same examination is regarded as an examination session. Submission of a blank examination is regarded as an examination. An examination for which the student registered but not participated in, will not be counted as an examination.

Transitional provisions

After each course, there will be at least 6 occasions for examination within a 2-year period after the end of the course.
