Introduction to toxicology and Target organ toxicology

After the course, the student should: • Demonstrate basic knowledge of the appearance and structure of different tissues and organs. • Be able to use a microscope and identify cell types and tissues in histological preparations. • Independently be able to describe general, and give examples of specific, pathological changes that may be caused by toxic substances.

Basic tissue theory and pathology. The anatomy and histology of tissues and organ systems divided into the structure and function of the liver and other toxicologically relevant organs (e g. epithelium, glands, fat, cartilage, bone, blood, bone marrow, tymolymphatic organs, muscle, vessels, skin, nerve tissue, sensory organs, the digestive system, respiratory organs, the sex and urinary organs, endocrine organs). General and specific pathological changes caused by toxic substances.

Lectures and microscopy exercises.

Histology and pathology are graded Fail/Pass/Pass with distinction and is examined through an oral examination. During the semester in question, a regular examination and an occasion for re-examination are given. Compulsory participation All practical demonstrations are compulsory. The course director assesses about and if so, how absence may be compensated. Before the student has participated in compulsory parts, or compensated absence in accordance with the course director 's instructions the student's results will not be registered in LADOK. Limitations of the number of examinations or practical training sessions Students who have not passed the regular examination are entitled to participate in five more examinations. If the student is not approved after four examinations, he/she is recommended to retake the course at the next regular course date, and may, after that, participate in two more examinations. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission is provided. Each time the student has participated in a particular examination is regarded as an examination session. Submission of a blank examination is regarded as an examination session. An examination for which the student has registered but not participated in, will not be counted as an examination session.

After each course, there will be at least 6 occasions for examination within a 2-year period after the end of the course.

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
