How you can influence the decision making or content of teaching activities

KI is an authority. For authorities there are specific rules that govern how the authority will handle cases. They can be found, for example, in the

• Higher Education Act
• Higher Education Ordinance
• Administrative act
• The Discrimination Act

The Swedish University Chancellor has a summary of regulations governing the University.

Decisions etc. concerning individual students

A case should be handled as simply, quickly and cost-effectively as possible and the handling should be legally secure. The involved party in a case has the right to take part/see of the material in the case. The Administrative Act also provides rules on, for example, the right to interpretation and conflict of interest rules.

Appeal

Some decisions can be appealed. If the decision you have received is shown if it can be appealed, then an appeal shall be submitted within 3 weeks of taking part of the decision. 

Review

An authority shall, under the Administrative Act, amend a decision which it has previously made as the first instance of:

• It considers that the decision is clearly incorrect in any material way on the ground that new circumstances have arisen or for any other reason;
• The decision can be changed quickly and easily and without it being detrimental to any individual party.

Educational activities and the students' situation

Active and committed student participation is central to the university's development work and to the quality of higher education.

Quality work is a common concern for the university's staff and students. The students shall have the right to exert influence over the education at the university. The university will work to ensure that the students take an active part in the work to further develop the education.

All students are co-actors in the university's activities and thus also have a co-responsibility in influencing and developing the education. In order for student influence to materialize, students need to take an active and committed role both as individuals and as a collective. A prerequisite for this is that the students' views, opinions and suggestions are sought and met with respect. The university has a responsibility to facilitate practical work and in other ways encourage and contribute to the students' involvement in the development work.

The students have the right to be represented when decisions are made, or preparations take place that are important for the education or student's situation.

• By participating in an evaluation, e.g. course evaluation
• Contact the student representative in your course or program
• Contact the course Coordinator or examiner for the course
• Contact the program Director for your training program

Student representatives are appointed by the student unions. Those who are appointed represent all students regardless of educational level, program affiliation or student union membership.
