Summer Courses Abroad

On this page, you will fins information about summer courses arranged by partner universities and other organisations that Karolinska Institutet has a connection to.

These are courses not included in the ordinary exchange programme through Karolinska Institutet. Most of the courses will therefore cost money. For more information, please contact the university or organisation in question directly. The courses are mainly within medicine and health related topics, but also within other areas such as languages, social sciences and technology. 

America

Colombia

Universidad del Rosario organises a number of summer courses every year, including Methods in the Development of Synthetic Vaccines and Primary Health Care in Colombia.

Asia

Hong Kong

The Chinese University of Hong Kong invites KI students (medicine and biomedicine) to participate in their summer research school (June-August). The summer research school is free of charge, but you must cover the administrative fee, travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Information on research projects in the field of Medicine.

Europe

Denmark

The University of Copenhagen offers several summer courses in medicine and health sciences in English. The courses at Aarhus University are given in English. During the summer, courses like Clinical Global Infectious Disease and Healthy Entrepreneurship and Innovation are available, which KI students can attend without paying the course fee (you are responsible for accommodation, travel, and living expenses).

Eurolife

KI is a member of the Eurolife network, where members organise several summer courses across Europe. These courses vary in focus, duration, deadlines, and may involve fees for which you are responsible.

France

Université Angers organises several summer courses such as Bioinformatics, Simulation in Health Care, and Vascular, in either French or English. 

Germany

Bonn Brain Conference

The 8th Bonn Brain Conference will take place from March 23-25, 2026. The conference aims to bring together diverse perspectives to explore some of the most challenging and fascinating questions about the brain’s workings.

IS Düsseldorf

Through IS Düsseldorf, you can apply for both a German beginner's summer course and/or an internship in Germany. Internship opportunities are available for students in physiotherapy, speech therapy, and medicine.

Do you want to combine language studies with a 14-week internship in Germany within your field? The Folk High School course German in Practice, conducted by the International Schools Düsseldorf on behalf of Braheskolan, is free of charge and eligible for CSN funding. The internship placement list is continuously updated, with new spots added. For professionally-oriented placements, companies require at least 1.5 years of university-level studies. If your field of study is not listed, we are happy to consider suggestions and requests.

Italy

Together with partners in Italy, the UK, and the US, KI organises a Summer School on Modern Methods in Biostatistics and Epidemiology in Treviso, June 2-14, 2025. The course is aimed at students with a strong interest in biostatistics and epidemiology.

Netherlands

Radboud Summer School

Radboud Summer School in Nijmegen offers several courses in the field of Health Care, such as Brain Imaging Genetics, Stress & Cognition, and Ultrasonography in Anesthesiology.

Erasmus Summer Programme in Rotterdam

The Erasmus Summer Programme in Rotterdam focuses on key principles and methods of quantitative medical research. Open to students and health professionals, it provides essential updates in a range of applied medical and healthcare disciplines.

UMC Utrecht Summer School

UMC Utrecht Summer School organises several international summer courses in medicine, global health, and health sciences.

Switzerland

Amgen Scholars Programme

ETH Zurich offers 11 scholarships for a summer research stay within the Amgen Scholars Programme. The programme is available for students pursuing a Bachelor’s degree at a European university. A closing highlight of the programme is the joint symposium for all European Amgen Scholars in Cambridge, UK. In addition to hands-on research, Amgen Scholars at ETH attend workshops and events offering insights into cutting-edge research and the opportunity to learn cross-cutting skills like communication, scientific writing, and intercultural skills.

Student Summer Research Fellowship

The Student Summer Research Fellowship (ETH SSRF) programme offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain their first research experience in an area of their choice. The fellowship is provided by the Computer Science Department of ETH Zurich and takes place during two summer months. It is open to all students worldwide.

United Kingdom

University of Cambridge

Spend the summer in historic Cambridge. Courses are offered in Immunology, Psychology, and Microbiology. Additionally, there are options to apply for English for Academic Purposes and an IELTS Preparation course. The courses run from July 13 to August 9, 2025.

King's College London

King's College London organises several courses in health sciences. Applications for 2025 are not yet open.

Queen Mary University of London

Queen Mary University of London offers summer courses in areas such as Global Health. KI students receive a 10% discount on the course fee.

University of Kent

The University of Kent offers a summer course in English and Communication Skills for Healthcare Practitioners. Scholarships may be available through the university.
