Hej! My name is Gerda, and I’m a first-year student in the Master’s Programme in Public Health Sciences, the Health Promotion and Prevention track. I was born and raised in a small town in Lithuania, surrounded by greenery, getting stung by my grandmother’s bees, and enthralled by biology and math. I went to Harvard University, where I majored in Neuroscience, minored in Global Health and Health Policy, and got a language citation in Russian.

Seven dark and cold but also very beautiful winters in Boston were not enough for me, so here I am in Stockholm ready for more! As I start my first semester at Karolinska Institutet (KI), I look forward to learning from such an international community of teachers and classmates how to better understand, improve, and promote health for all.

Outside of my studies and work, you will rarely find me sitting still! I enjoy exploring Stockholm’s nature by discovering the best paths to run, dancing with my friends (after 12 years of traditional Lithuanian dancing and several years of ballroom dancing, I took up salsa!), browsing in second-hand stores, or learning how to bake bread from my multitalented KI classmates!

I am beyond excited to become a digital ambassador for Instagram and share my KI story with current and prospective students. Stay tuned!
