Katie knew she wanted to study global health at a world-renowned university and thought that there was no better place to learn about it than at Karolinska Institutet (KI). The lecturers here are some of the best in their fields. Katie wanted to come and do a global master’s at KI as there are students in her programme from all over the world and from all different backgrounds, and that definitely enriches the graduate school experience.

Katie is firstly looking forward to learning more about global health, but she is also looking forward to finding out what it is like to live in Sweden and making friends from all over the world!

In 10 years, Katie hopes to be a doctor working in a hospital, maybe as an ophthalmic surgeon. She is not yet sure where, but she thinks that field would be interesting. Katie would also love to be incorporating global health into her profession, maybe helping train doctors in low- and middle-income countries to perform more complex surgeries in limited-resource settings.

When Katie has some time to spare, she enjoys running and runs a lot. She ran the Berlin marathon last year and will run the London marathon next year!
