Midwifery 2022-2023

To be accepted as an exchange student at Karolinska Institutet you must be enrolled at a higher education institution that has a written exchange agreement with Karolinska Institutet for the specific study programme of interest. Exchange students should be selected and nominated by their home institution, however the final decision on admission is made by Karolinska Institutet.

To find the syllabus for the course or rotation you are interested in, follow the link to  the course syllabus archive above.

You need to enter the course codes to access the syllabuses and they can be found right before the name of the courses or rotations listed on this page, under "Options in English" and "Options in Swedish".

Options in English

For exchange students without Swedish language command, the Midwifery Programme offers two courses/rotations in English as presented below. For information on how to apply and application deadlines, please use links below.

Curricular courses

All courses are full-time courses and require at least 40 hours of work per week. A student can only attend one course at a time. One study week is equivalent to 1.5 ECTS credits. The performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale and on the basis of the student's fulfillment of the learning outcomes stated in the course syllabus. General, and sometimes specific requirements have to be met in order to apply for the courses (see below).

Please also note that there is only a limited number of places and a study place can therefore not be guaranteed.

Will I be admitted? There are only a limited number of places on curricular courses and projects. You apply in competition and a study place cannot be guaranteed. Please choose more than one alternative when filling in the application form, since that will increase you chances of being admitted.

How do I apply? Start the on-line application below by selecting your home university, preferred period of study and language of instruction. Then look through the entire form and read all the information carefully, especially under proposed study programme at Karolinska Institutet. Mandatory information is marked " * ". You will not be able to submit the application if you omit this information.

Have all the information ready when you start. Once you have started to enter the required information on-line, you cannot save it to continue at a later stage. This means that you must have all information ready by the time you wish to submit your application, which will take about 15 minutes to complete. As long as you are actively entering information, there is no time limit.

Remember to print the application and registration number. Please note that you must print your application before you submit it electronically. You submit the application by pressing the "Submit" button at the end of the form. Note that when this is done you cannot make any changes! You will immediately get a notification that your application has been registered along with a registration number unique to your application. Please make a note of this registration number as it is used to check the status of your application.

What do I do with my printed application? Once you have printed the application, sign it and also have it signed by the international coordinator or contact person at your university. Please send the application to the international coordinator, either scanned or by regular mail, together with:

  • A verified transcript of credits and grades, i.e. list of courses passed at your home university
  • Notarized copies of the pages in your passports showing your personal data and the validity of the passport. The copy MUST be certified by your university, i.e. signed and stamped by somebody who works at your university, who can certify that it is a copy of your passport.
