Options in English

All courses and rotations are full-time courses/rotations and require at least 40 hours of work per week. A student can only attend one course at a time. One study week is equivalent to 1.5 ECTS credits. The performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale and on the basis of the student's fulfillment of the learning outcomes stated in the course syllabus.

General requirements

Specific eligibility requirements are as follows:

• at least 2 years of study on a study programme in Physiotherapy
• a very good command of English (equal to a TOEFL score of 550)

Specific requirements for clinical rotations:

• at least one previous clinical placement equivalent to 6 ECTS (or 4 weeks - see specific requirements for each course)

• 1EE096 Literature review, 3 ECTS credits (2 weeks, offered both autumn and spring semester)
• 1EE021 Community and home based rehabilitation - cultural perspectives, 7.5 ECTS credits (early May - early June 2024)
• 1EE102 Physiotherapeutic Perspectives on Global Health, 3 ECTS credits
• 1FY040 Theme Healthcare - Health Promotion, 4.5 ECTS credits

Clinical Rotations

Full-time clinical rotations in English designed to meet the needs of incoming exchange students are also arranged. The duration of a single rotation is four to six weeks. Rotations may be combined according to the needs of the individual student. A student can only, however, attend one rotation at a time. The starting date of the rotations is fairly flexible and may be adjusted to fit the student´s study plan. The student should complete assignments agreed upon at the start of the clinical rotation. Continuous evaluation will also be carried out throughout the rotation.

During the clinical rotation the student will be assigned to a clinical supervisor, who will be responsible for ongoing instruction and supervision. Appointed lecturer will be responsible for the clinical area in question and participates together with the clinical supervisor in the initial discussion of the student's educational objectives and in evaluations.

The performance will be graded in accordance with the ECTS grading scale and on the basis of the student's fulfillment of the learning outcomes stated in the course syllabus.

Options in Swedish

Exchange students with a good command of Swedish or another Scandinavian language are welcome to apply for these options.

More information about the programme

Physiotherapy is a field of knowledge that is described from both a medical and a health perspective. Physiotherapists work with health promotion, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. Physiotherapists work with people with disabilities caused by disease or damage to different organ systems, such as the nervous system, the respiratory system, the locomotor system and the cardiovascular system. They work with people of all ages and people with mental conditions or psychosomatic problems. Physiotherapists have independent responsibility for assessment, choice of intervention, treatment and evaluation.

The study programme covers physiotherapy and research methodology, anatomy, physiology, psychology and numerous medical subjects. Students learn about the structure, function, capacity and limitations of the human body, and make early contact with patients and their physiotherapists through field studies. Clinical studies take place largely in different parts of the Stockholm regional healthcare sector. In the final term, students take elective courses and complete a Bachelor Thesis.

After graduation

Physiotherapists work in hospitals and healthcare centres, with home nursing and the care of the developmentally delayed, in occupational care and at sports clinics, health promotion centres and private practices.
