Introduction at Karolinska Institutet
Are you global program student or exchange student starting at KI? Then you're warmly welcome to join fun and practical activities the week before the semester begins!

Student Union + KI = đź’ś
The student union Medicinska Föreningen (MF) organizes lots of fun social events before the semester starts. It’s a great way to get to know KI and make new friends! Activities include picnics, guided tours in Stockholm, pub nights, parties, and more. Of course you should join!
We at KI, who work with student support, also want to meet you and share practical tips and useful skills to help you get started.
Arrival Days at Arlanda 23–24 August
First things first, we want to welcome you when you land at Arlanda Airport! You’ll be met by KI students, the Student Union, and KI Housing. They’ll help you find the best way to get to campus and answer any questions you have about KI or housing.
Lectures and Swedish fika
KI's Student Support team invites you to two days filled with useful sessions and friendly mingling on tuesday and wednesday. We’ll talk about academic writing coaching, KI’s approach to generative AI, support from Student Wellbeing Centre, and how we learn across cultures. You’ll also enjoy a classic Swedish fika and get the chance to chat with your fellow students. The international coordinators will be there too, perfect if you're an exchange student who needs help with practical matters!
Welcome Ceremony and fair
On the Friday before the semester starts, you’re invited to a welcome ceremony followed by a fair in Aula Medica. During the ceremony, you’ll be welcomed by the KI President, a student panel, and some live entertainment. After the ceremony, you’ll get to meet various KI services at the fair. We’ll treat you to fika and you’ll receive your very own KI backpack!
Activity schedule
The activity schedule for the week is published below but will be updated in June. For lectures in Swedish, see this page in Swedish.
We’ll start with an information session at the Flemingsberg campus, followed by a guided tour and fika with your mentors. At 16:00, we’ll take a bus to Solna for a barbecue, campus tours, and a welcome pub at MF’s student union house (18+ only). Meeting point: 13:00 at Alfred Nobels Allé 23, Flemingsberg. No registration needed!
Welcome to the first part of your introduction, led by KI's student support functions.
Let's start by taking your academic writing to the next level. Throughout your studies at KI, you will be asked to write clear, well-structured academic texts in English. The university library give you a brief session to introduce you to some of the conventions of academic writing, as well as what kind of support is available to help you learn and improve. Please register for this day's activities by using the register button above.
Find something tasty to eat at one of the campus restaurants, cafés or food trucks
Is it a superpower for your studies or is it a digital dilemma? Welcome to an introductory session about using AI in your studies. During the session, we will address the following questions: what kind of AI use is generally acceptable and what is not? How can you use AI tools to support your learning and develop your academic writing skills?
Have a lovely Swedish fika and mingle with your fellow students. If you are an exchange student, you can also take the opportunity to meet the international coordinators.
As you study in KI’s multicultural and multilingual environment, developing the skills, values, and attitudes to support your learning is essential. Jennifer Valcke, Educational developer and researcher at KI, is excited to offer you a unique opportunity to reflect on how your worldview, culture, and lived experiences can contribute to a creative, inclusive, and equitable learning space.
It’s finally time for you Amphiox students to meet your mentors and teammates at the student union house on the Solna campus! The evening continues in central Stockholm, ending at a club in the city. Registration required. (Not yet open)
Welcome to the second part of your introduction, led by KI's student support functions.

Studying in another country is an adventure filled with new experiences, cultural encounters, and personal growth – but it can also come with challenges. How do you find your place in a new environment? How do you maintain your mental well-being when everything around you is unfamiliar? Student Wellbeing Centre will guide you in the right direction!
Join us on the lawn at the Solna campus for music, games, and fun with the MF board and your mentors. Meeting point: 12:00 at the Solna campus. No registration needed!
