Erasmus+ traineeship in Switzerland and the United Kingdom

To qualify for an Erasmus+ scholarship for an traineeship in Switzerland or the United Kingdom, KI must establish an individual agreement with the recipient.

Traineeship in Switzerland

If you want to intern in Switzerland, KI needs to apply for an individual agreement for each student. This process takes time, so we encourage you to start early.

Step by step:

  1. Contact a potential supervisor in Switzerland.
  2. If you are offered an internship: Contact your course leader at KI for approval.
  3. Once approval is granted: Send an email to Kelly Grahn with:
    • Contact details of the person responsible for your reception.
    • Information and contact details of your supervisor in Switzerland.
    • A brief description of your internship.
  4. If the Swiss recipient approves your internship: KI will arrange a proposal for an individual agreement for the recipient to review and sign.
  5. Once the agreement is finalized: Fill in a Learning Agreement for Traineeships and send it to the course coordinator at KI and then to your supervisor in Switzerland for signature.
  6. When the Learning Agreement is signed by all parties: Send it back to the administrator at KI, who will assist you further with the Erasmus+ scholarship application and insurance.

Important:

  • The scholarship application must be received by us at least four weeks before the end of the term.
  • If you want to intern at a Swiss company or organization, no individual agreement is required. You fill in a Learning Agreement for Traineeships and send it to the course coordinator at KI and then to your supervisor in Switzerland for signature.
  • Note that KI is not responsible for visa matters.

Traineeship in the United Kingdom

Due to Brexit, the United Kingdom is no longer part of the Erasmus+ cooperation, which means special rules for studying abroad there. If you want to intern in the United Kingdom, Karolinska Institutet (KI) needs to apply for an individual agreement for each student. This process takes time, so we encourage you to start early.

Step by step:

  1. Contact a potential supervisor in the United Kingdom.
  2. If you get an internship: Contact your course leader at KI for approval.
  3. Once approval is granted: Send an email to the administrator at KI with:
    • Information about the British administrator responsible for incoming internship students (name and email).
    • Information about your supervisor in the United Kingdom.
    • A brief description of your internship.
  4. If the British institution approves your internship: KI will arrange an individual agreement for you.
  5. Fill in a Learning Agreement for Traineeships: Send it to your course leader at KI and then to your supervisor in the United Kingdom.
  6. When the Learning Agreement is signed by all parties: Send it back to the administrator at KI, who will assist you further with the Erasmus+ scholarship application and insurance.

Important:

  • The scholarship application must be received by us at least four weeks before the end of the term.
  • If you want to intern at a British company, KI does not need to arrange an individual agreement. You can directly send a Learning Agreement to the supervisor at the company.
  • Note that KI is not responsible for visa matters.
