For admission to the course, it is required that the student has managed at least 45 HE credits from Semester 1-2 and a Pass grade in Part 1 and 2 from the course Hearing assessment 1.

Objectives

The course is a continuation of the streak in professional development and includes 1.5 HE credits of a total of 6 HE credits and runs throughout the study programme. The general aim of the streak is to provide the student knowledge and tools to be able to develop an ethical and professional attitude and to develop both as an individual and in the professional role.

The expected learning outcomes of the course
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- Reflect and give proposal on a professional treatment in different patient situations
- Reflect on the future occupational identity and development to strengthen the professional role in the profession and in the interplay with colleagues
- Analyse which patient categories that should need contact with other professions within the hearing health care. Explain and illustrate the delimitation between the exercise of counseling as a communication technique within the professional role of the audiologist and other psychological treatment modes outside the professional role of the audiologist.
- Discuss ethical aspects within the care around psychological, religious or legal fields and  critically review one´s own and others' ethical argumentation.
- Carry out adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to current guidelines from the Swedish Resuscitation Council.

Content

The course material is presented on the PingPong platform Professional skills, where the different modules are presented. At this web platform the students also collect the written assignments, reflections and other materials in a portfolio, which follows throughout all modules in the streak.
The different modules in the streak are not given during any specific week of the semesters. The different parts are either integrated in other courses or given via PingPong, parallel to other courses.

Specific contents of Professional skills 2:

Through reflecting and written assignments, the student reasons on how the communication and counseling are important in the patients' processing of one´s concern over the future occupational identity, and over ethical perspectives in the health care.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is trained at a compulsory exercise session.

Teaching methods

Seminars, lectures, exercises and self-studies

Seminars and exercises are compulsory.  In case of absence from a compulsory part, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator for complementary assignments.

The course director assesses how absence from compulsory education elements may be compensated for. Until the student has participated in the compulsory parts or has replaced compulsory education, in accordance to the instructions of the course coordinator, the final study results cannot be reported. Absence from a compulsory education element may result in that the student cannot recover the occasion until next time the course is given.

Examination

Active participation in seminars
Individually written assignments and reflections

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance and active participation in compulsory parts are also required. For students who have not passed the regular examination, possibility for examination is offered at a total of six examinations, of which the three last are in connection to the next occasion when the course is given. As examination, the times are counted that the student participated in the same test. Supplementary addition to a written assignment is counted as one examination.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place according to an earlier literature list during a time of a year after the renewal of the literature list has been made. Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible close-down of the course.

Other directives

A study guide is distributed at the beginning of the course, comprising assessment criteria for examination, specific instructions for certain tasks, a timetable specifying compulsory parts, and a list of responsible teachers. The course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of education. The course evaluation will be carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course, and through an oral course forum at least once in connection with the course, under which the students can state their opinions.
