Medicine 5: Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases and Psychiatry, 4.5 credits

For admission to semester 6 apply that student may remain with no more than 15 credits from previous semesters.

Component psychiatry (2 credits)
On completion of this part, the student is expected to be able to:

• At a general level describe symptoms and treatment at depression addiction diseases eating disorders psychosis personality disorders depression syndrome as well as account for symptom picture at psychogenic conditions with functional decline (e g psychogenic voice disorder or psychogenic dysfagi).
• Account for different methods at psychotherapeutic treatment
• At a general level account for investigation and treatment of transgender persons with gender dysphoria
• At a general level describe organisation of psychiatric care care in forensic psychiatry as well as legislation concerning psychiatric compulsory institutional care
• Reflect on like conditions in relation to mental disease

Component ear- nose and throat disease (2.5 credits)
On completion of this part, the student is expected to be able to:

• Describe common diseases and cancer in ear nose sinus mouth throat including tonsils and adenoids and acute and chronic infections in ear as well as account for general treatment principles of these diseases
• Account for and explain aetiology and symptomatology as well as treatment of diseases in larynx and vocal cord.
• Describe examination methods for diagnostics at diseases in larynx and vocal cord.
• At a general level account for different surgical methods/technologies at microsurgery and voice-improving surgery, conservative and radical surgeries as well as radiation at larynx and oral cancer.
• At a general level describe bases of pharmacology and different medicines' possible effect on voice and number.

Psychiatry
Component intend give basic knowledge of symptoms and treatment at different psychiatric diseases knowledge of investigation and care of patients in forensic psychiatry and knowledge of organisation and legislation in psychiatric care/compulsory institutional care (related to streak Professional skills- ethics, law, surrounding world). Also investigation and treatment of transgender persons with gender dysphoria are concerned.

Ears- nose and throat disease
Component intends to provide knowledge of causes and treatment at the most common diseases in ears nose sinus mouth and throat including cancer.
Symptomatology, diagnostics and treatment of diseases in larynx as well as different methods for laryngeal surgery are also included. How pharmacological treatment can affect on voice and number is taken.

Lectures and seminars.

In case of absence from a compulsory activity, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator for a complementary assignment.
The course coordinator decides if, and how, absence from compulsory parts can be compensated. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator.

Absence from a compulsory activity may result in that the student can not make up for this element until next time the course be given.

Written examination as well as participation in compulsory seminar (state in timetable)

Written examination is corrected anonymously.
At failed result on written examination have student right to further five examinations. The third examination is the following regular examination in the course.
Submission of a blank exam paper is regarded as an examination.
In case a student is registered for an examination but does not attend, this is not regarded as an examination.

Examination can be carried out according to an earlier literature list during a period of one year after the date of a renewal of the literature list. Examination will be provided during a period of one year after a possible closing of the course.

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.

The course may be given in English, if exchange students attend.
