Specific entry requirements
To be qualified to a higher semester, it is required that the student has taken at least 15 HE credits from last semester, and all credits from previous semesters.
Objectives
After completing the course the student will be able to:
- explain the relationship between the materials and methods during interventional studies
- identify the body vessels in extremities, abdomen, brain and heart, and be able to account for the anatomy and physiology of the vessels
- explain the relationship between pathology and interventional approaches
- explain the use of current drugs and relate these to interventional examinations
- assist and apply an aseptic and sterile procedure in interventional examinations and treatments
- analyze nursing interventions and procedures in the preparation and aftercare of patients at different interventions
- reflect on various medical markers before and during various interventions
- reflect on risks involved in interventional procedures
- relate current science to clinical practice
Content
The clinical placement in the course is carried out in three angiographic clinics. The student is trained to carry out angiographic tasks by participation in commonly occurring examinations within peripheral, coronary and neurological fields. Thereby the student is trained to link the perspectives of asepsis, care before, during and after the examination and technical medical aspects. The student will thus in practice come in contact with different materials and acquire the knowledge of the properties of different materials and their use in connection with various interventions. The student also get theoretical knowledge regarding vascular anatomy / physiology, diseases, treatments, markers, ECG and pharmacology by reading scientific articles, studying different kinds of literature and participate in lectures and seminars.
Teaching methods
The working methods that are used during the course are clinical placement, assignments and lectures.
Examination
To pass the course, approved participation in compulsory parts and passed written examination are required. The student will be able to practically assist and apply aseptic and sterile procedures during interventional examinations and treatments. This is assessed according to criteria based on an evidence-based approach for the placement. The elements assessed on the basis of learning outcomes will be given to the student in the form of a checklist in the beginning of the course.
To pass the course, actively approved participation in compulsory parts are required. Clinical training is compulsory. Replacement of absence from compulsory parts are planned in consultation with supervisors and trainers.
The student is entitled to a total of examination to get passed.
In connections to the course three occasions will be given, one within the course and three during the following re-examinations. In certain cases, it is required that the student submits an exemption application before he/she get the results of his/her latest completed examination.
The examiner may with immediate effect interrupt a student's clinical rotation, or the equivalent, if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk. When clinical rotation is interrupted according to this, it implies that the student fails in the current part, and that one clinical rotation opportunity is used up.
In such cases, an individual action plan, showing which activities and examinations required before the student is given the opportunity for a new placement on this course.
