Specific entry requirements
At least the Pass grade in all courses from semester 1 and 2 in the Study Programme in Dental Hygiene
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should: - have knowledge of pedagogical philosophy and history of ideas - be able to reflect on the association between ethical positions and view of the humanity - be able to explain association between a fundamental ethical view and professional ethics - have knowledge of the historical development of the scientific philosophy.
Content
The course introduces the student to philosophy of science and philosophy of knowledge from the natural philosophers of the classical antiquity to the modern thinkers of today and their impact on the development of teaching and research. The course focuses on ethical values and positions.
Teaching methods
The teaching is given as lectures and seminars.
Examination
The student should make a written analysis of the compulsory reading list and participate actively in all stated seminars. In case of absence, assignments that compensate the absence are provided. To obtain the grade Pass in the whole course, it is required that the independent, written assignments achieve the grade pass with credit. Students who have not passed the regular examination/assessment session are entitled to two more examinations. If the student is not approved after three examinations, he/she is recommended to retake the course at the next regular opportunity before three more examination opportunities are given. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission to the course is given.
Transitional provisions
Examination according to the earlier literature list of this course syllabus is provided a year from 2010-09-01.
Other directives
Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
