Specific entry requirements

At least the Pass grade in all courses from semester 1 and 2 in the Study Programme in Dental Hygiene

Objectives

On completion of the course, the student should: - have knowledge of educational philosophy and history of ideas - be able to describe pedagogical basic principles of planning and design of teaching material for children and youths in the primary and lower-secondary school - be able to reflect on the connection between ethical positions and view of the mankind - be able to explain connections between a fundamental ethical view and professional ethics - be familiar with the historical development of the philosophy of science

Content

The course introduces the student to philosophy of science and philosophy of knowledge from the natural philosophers of the classical antiquity to the modern thinkers of today and their impact on the development of teaching and research. The course focuses on ethical values and positions.

Teaching methods

Tuition forms during the course are lectures, seminars and group exercises.

Examination

Compulsory attendance at seminars and group exercises. A written summary of the compulsory reading list and active participation in seminars and group exercises. In case of absence, assignments that compensate the absence are provided.

Other directives

Students who have not passed the regular examination/assessment session are entitled to two more examinations. If the student is not approved after three examinations, he/she is recommended to retake the course at the next regular opportunity before three more examination opportunities are given. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission to the course is given. Other Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
