Objectives

On completion of the course, the student should: - be able to account for and reflect on healthy and risk factors of oral health, and explain how the various healthy and risk factors affect positions in the treatment planning and prognosis of periodontal diseases - be able to account for the specific conditions concerning dental prophylaxis with a specialisation in pedodontics - be able to identify the dental hygienist's role in the public health care, and how the work can be carried out - have an awareness and knowledge of how tobacco-preventive work can be carried out in the individual patient situation - should demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the normal aging and the sick aging - biologically, physically, psychologically and socially - and the dental consequences of this - demonstrate an ability to individually adjust a good dental care and a good nursing considering the individual patient's specific needs and preconditions - have knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of patients with dental anxiety

Content

The course provides knowledge in Dental prophylaxis with specific emphasis on the relationships between healthy and risk factors of oral health, as a basis for clinical studies.

Teaching methods

The tuition forms during the course are lectures and seminars. The course comprises full-time studies.

Examination

The assessment of the students' achievements and knowledge acquisition takes place through a written final examination. Compulsory attendance and active participation in seminars, group exercises and attendance as observer. In case of absence, assignments that compensate the absence are provided.

Other directives

Students who have not passed the regular examination/assessment session are entitled to two more examinations. If the student is not approved after three examinations, he/she is recommended to retake the course at the next regular opportunity before three more examination opportunities are given. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission to the course is given. Other Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
