Specific entry requirements

- Excellent knowledge in English equivalent to 550 TOEFL credit points. - At least 3 years of studies in medicine (equivalent to 180 ECTS) including passed course's in internal medicine and surgery and basic scientific knowledge. - Ability to take medical history and assess the physical status of a patient - Basic computer skills

Objectives

On completion of the course, the student should be able to: • Recognise, describe, explain and assess common symptoms and clinical findings at common and important diseases and health problem within gynaecology and obstetrics. • Account for which diagnostic methods that are available within the subject area. • Set diagnosis and establish a treatment plan at common health problems within the subject area • Account for the multi-disciplinary and multiprofessional set-up characteristic for the subject area. • Reflect on professional aspects and his own development during the course.

Content

The clinical rotation comprises 40 hours of duty a week within and outside the university hospital. An individual timetable is established for each student.

Teaching methods

The students get support in their theoretical studies through discussions with teachers about patient cases etc and at regular patient case discussions in groups where the student is expected to present own cases and account for these. The two first days contain a general introduction to the field of gynaecology, obstetrics and including examination technique. The student will furthermore take part of joint lectures within theme Reproduction and Development that is given in English on some occasions during the course. Aparat from the above mentioned the course contains no lectures. The teachers will refer the students to appropriate material for the studies and be available for questions and discussion.

Examination

Examination: The course coordinator will have a final seminar based on structured case studies with the student to assess the student's basic knowledge and problem-solving ability. The course coordinator obtains reports from physicians and other staff concerning the student's activities and clinical skills. Compulsory attendance: Attendance is compulsory at all planned activities including lectures, clinical duty, case discussions and final seminar. The supervisor decides how absence is compensated.

Other directives

Examination The examiner may with immediate effect interrupt a student's clinical rotation (VFU), or the equivalent, if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk. When clinical rotation is interrupted in this way, it implies that the student fails in the current part and that one clinical rotation opportunity is used up. In such cases, an individual action plan should be set up for required activities and examinations, before the student is given a possibility for a new clinical rotation in the course. Eligibility Student that has failed placement (VFU)/equivalent, since the student has shown so serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes that the patient security or the patients' trust for the healthcare have been jeopardised is qualified to new placement only when the individual action plan has been completed.
