Specific entry requirements

For admission to semester 7, the grade pass in all courses from semester 1-5 is required. The student may have a maximum of 7,5credits remaining from courses at G2-level semester 6.

Objectives

On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- explain the scientific question formulation of the thought project from a scientific theory orientation
- formulate a search strategy for the topic of the paper and account for and explain choice of search word, strategy and choices of sources
- reflect on research-ethical problems and standpoints
- explain choices of research methodology based on the scientific question
- describe the different stages of the research process in the thought project including review of relevant literature data collection, statistical and other analytical methods and possible results and the importance of these
- orally and in writing assess and criticize a suggested project plan

Content

The contents of the course focus on an extended and advanced knowledge of basic scientific theoretical specialisations, information retrieval, the research process, scientific application (evidence-based medicine), research ethics and gender perspectives on research. Linked to these perspectives, the students present and review project plans that describe the degree projects that are carried out during the last academic year.

Teaching methods

The course includes compulsory seminars and exercises and degree project with project plan. In case of absence at compulsory parts the student is responsible to contact the course coordinator for complementary assignment.

Examination

The course is examined through submission of written project plan and through active participation in seminars. The student should also present oral and written feedback to the project plan of a fellow student.

Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination is given.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place with the previous literature list during a period of one and a half years after the date of any renewal of the reading list. Examination will be provided during a period of three years after possible shut-down of the course.

Other directives

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
