Specific entry requirements
For admission to semester 7, the grade pass in all courses from semester 1-5 is required. The student may have a maximum of 7.5 credits remaining from courses at G2-level, semester 6.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:
- formulate a search strategy for the topic and justify choice of descriptor, strategy and sources
- reflect on problems and points of view in research ethics
- describe the research process in different stages of the planned project including its aim, theoretical foundation, review of relevant literature, data collection, statistical and other analytical methods as well as possible results and their importance
- assess orally and in writing and criticise a suggested project plan
- account for what characterises scientific texts regarding style, structure and format as well as apply this knowledge in writing a project plan
Content
The course provides extended and advanced knowledge of basic scientific approaches, information retrieval, scientific writing, the research process, research ethics and equal treatment perspectives on research. Based on these perspectives, the students present and review project plans for their degree projects that are carried out during semester 8.
Teaching methods
The course includes compulsory seminars and exercises as well as independent project with project plan. In case of absence from a compulsory course element, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator for complementary assignment.
Examination
The course is examined through submission of written project plan as well as through active participation in seminars. The student should also present oral and written feedback to the project plan of a fellow student.
Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination is given.
Transitional provisions
Examination can take place according to previous literature list during a time of an year after the time as a renewal of the literature list has been made. Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible close-down of the course.
Other directives
Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
