Specific entry requirements

Specific entry requirements :
Swedish certificate as a nurse and 60 credits in nursing (20 p for each A -, B and C level). Alternatively, current enrollment at the Specialist Nursing Program at Karolinska Institutet.

Objectives

The aims of the course
The aims of the course are that the student acquires advanced knowledge in acute cardiology from commonly occurring medical conditions, diagnostics, treatment, and specific nursing of these patients based on a holistic perspective.

On completion of the course, the student should be able to

Describe and reflect on medical care, diagnostics and treatment strategies for acute coronary and valvular disease of the heart and acute heart failure

Identify, analyse and reflect on the application of the individually adjusted specific nursing in acute coronary disease and acute heart failure.

Identify concepts and reflect on models and theories in the specific nursing in acute coronary disease and acute heart failure.

Teaching methods

The course is both campus and web-based (distance). The working method aims at training a scientific approach through active knowledge acquisition, problem-solving, critical analysis and reflection and training the ability to oral and written presentation.

This course includes the following parts: Scheduled course introduction, cohort groups and group discussions in the computer platform PingPong, seminars, lectures and field studies. The course includes individual work as well as work in groups.

Distance education is web-based and is characterised by independent and collaborative learning. Different working methods such as individual study assignments, group work, group discussions in the computer platform PingPong, seminars and lectures are used. The number of physical hits is limited to at most 2 days/7.5 credits excluding introduction and examination.

In case of absence in compulsory parts, the student is obliged to make an agreement with the supervisor about complementary assignments.

For a Pass grade, all subparts should be graded with a Pass, at least.

For the grade Pass with distinction, the largest part should be graded with a Pass with distinction.

Limited number of examinations
A student without an approved result after three examinations can be offered to take the course once more. However, there are at most six examination opportunities for each course. Examination times are announced at the beginning of the course.

Transitional provisions

The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the autumn semester of 2012.
