Specific entry requirements
Profession - or Bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits of which at least the 120 credits within behavioural science subjects; or Occupational therapist - or physiotherapy degree of 180 credits or Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy or physiotherapy; or Nurse degree of 180 credits or Bachelor's degree in nursing.
English and Swedish language skills equivalent to English A/English 6 and Swedish B/Swedish 3 at Swedish upper secondary school are also required.
Objectives
The student should after completed course be able to:
- discuss relevant theories, models and current research within the fields of sickness absence and occupational rehabilitatio.n
- discuss the concept work ability and compare and evaluate methods to assess employees' work ability.
- reflect on workplace based interventions to prevent sickness absence and promote return to work in relation to scientific literature and relevant legislation.
- analyse and reflect on practises and methods within occupational rehabilitation and the own occupational group's role in this work.
- identify which actors that are participating in sick leave and occupational rehabilitation,and how they cooperate in these processes.
Content
The course covers:
- theories, models and current research within the fields of sickness absence, work ability and occupational rehabilitation.
- methods to assess work ability.
- practises and methods within occupational rehabilitation with special focus on workplace interventions.
- actors within occupational rehabilitation and how they cooperate.
- importance of workplace interventions for work ability and return to work.
Teaching methods
The teaching consists of a combination of distance education and scheduled campus time. The distance education includes literature studies, group assignments, report writing, interview surveys etc The tuition forms at the campus teaching include lectures, seminars and group assignments.
At the campus teaching, compulsory attendance can occur at certain teaching parts.
Examination
Examination takes place through individual, written examination and written assignments, both individual as in groups, with oral presentation and seminars. The examination of the written assignments is assessed from both written contents and oral presentation.
The grading system is Failed/Passed/Passed with distinction.
A Pass grade requires attendance at compulsory lectures and active participation in seminars. The course leader decides if and how absence from training should be compensated. Before student has participated in compulsory lectures or compensated absence in accordance with the instructions of Course Coordinator be reported not the student's course result in LADOK.
Limited number of examinations The student has the right to participate in six examination sessions. If the student is not passed after four examination sessions, he or she is urged to visit the study adviser.
Participation in an examination is defined as an occasion on which a student attends an examination. The submission of a blank examination paper is counted as an examination. An examination for which the student registered but not participated in, will not be regarded as an examination.
Transitional provisions
Examination will be provided during a time of two years after a possible cancellation of the course. Examination can take place according to an earlier literature list during a time of one year after the date when a major renewal of the literature list has been made.
Other directives
Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board for education and based on evaluation routines within the Master's programme (one-year) in work and health.

Further literature in the form of eg scientific articles, regulations, and reports will be applicable.
