About the programme
There has been a tremendous development in the field of nutrition in recent decades, resulting in a large demand in academic expertise who can interpret, communicate, and apply research findings in a balanced way. The Master's Programme in Nutrition Science aims to give you a broad understanding of the role of diet in human health, and in-depth knowledge of the scientific basis and research methods in the field. As a graduate, you will be prepared for various career paths in an expanding field.
During the first year of the programme, you will learn about the associations between diet and health and the evidence behind diet and physical activity recommendations, while taking sustainability into consideration. You will get in-depth knowledge of molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying the impact of diet on the human body. Assessment methodology for dietary intake, physical activity and fitness, focusing on validity, applicability and evaluation of the results, is also an important part in understanding nutrition science.
Tools for monitoring of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), large scale data collection analysis, and data visualisations will also be used. You will deepen your knowledge of the role of diet and physical activity in both prevention and treatment of NCDs, where global perspectives are applied. Special focus will be on intervention studies and digital health. You will also learn about the treatment of nutrition-related diseases on an individual level. Professional development in popular science communication and entrepreneurship will further prepare you for your career.
In the second year, you can choose to do a degree project comprising of 30, 45 or 60 credits, in your area of interest, within various fields of nutrition research. For example, the project can be molecular, physiological, clinical, epidemiological or public health-oriented. Depending on the length of the degree project, you can include up to 30 credits of elective courses and create your own educational profile.
