Welcome information

Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology course in Solna!

This course, part of semester 10 in the medical program, aims to provide students with a solid foundation in obstetrics and gynecology, focusing on both common and serious conditions. The course is designed to develop students' abilities to diagnose, treat, and manage patients with obstetric and gynecological conditions in an evidence-based and professional manner.

The curriculum covers everything from normal pregnancy and childbirth to more complex conditions such as infertility, endometriosis, and gynaecological cancers. Students will also gain an in-depth understanding of acute obstetric situations and the management of complications during pregnancy and childbirth.

Workplace-based learning (VFU in Swedish) is a central component of the course, offering students the opportunity to practice clinical skills in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Students in Solna complete their clinical training at Karolinska University Hospital and other health care services in the Stockholm region.

The course emphasizes the importance of a holistic perspective and an ethical approach within obstetrics and gynaecology. Students will also learn about relevant laws and guidelines, including issues related to reproductive health, contraception, and violence against women.

By integrating theoretical instruction, practical training, and interprofessional learning, the course equips students to navigate the diverse and complex field of obstetrics and gynaecology with both competence and empathy.
