Certificate of International Merits (CIM)

Do you want to increase your global competence and prepare for a multicultural job market? Then CIM, a certificate that highlights your global competencies, is for you!

What is CIM?

A Certificate of International Merits (CIM) is a certificate in the form of a digital "portfolio" with various activities during your education that highlight and strengthen your global competence through, for example:

  • Participation in internationalization at home.
  • Various forms of mobility.
  • Various activities within and outside the educational program that strengthen you as a global citizen.

It is a tool to:

  • Increase the global and intercultural competence of KI's students who, for various reasons, do not go on physical exchange studies.
  • Contribute to a more inclusive campus culture.
  • Prepare KI's students for a more multicultural and inclusive job market.

How does CIM work?

The educational programs included in the pilot project select a number of activities that you as a student can include in your CIM during your studies at KI. The activities included are shown in the educational program's CIM Canvas course.

Examples of CIM activities

  • Physical mobility (independently or as exchange studies)
  • Student representative
  • Student ambassador
  • Welcoming incoming exchange students within your educational program
  • Non-credit lectures in English
  • Chase - career fair
  • TedX
  • Participation as an ambassador during welcome week/day
  • Mentor/Study buddy
  • Online lectures in English
  • Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), hybrid mobility, virtual mobility
  • Course in global health
  • Participation in language café, participant and/or coordinator

Three activities and reflections

You must complete three activities to be able to obtain a CIM in connection with your graduation.

After each activity, you need to perform a self-reflection in the form of a short text or a short film. When you have completed all three activities, you must also perform a final reflection before you can apply for a CIM.

CIM activities are recorded in Ladok and included in your Diploma Supplement in connection with the issuance of your degree after approval by the educational program.

Self-reflection

As soon as you have completed an activity, it is time to reflect on it. By reflecting on your own development, you deepen your knowledge.

Think about what the activity has brought you, what you have experienced, and how the activity has affected you. Do you feel that you have increased your international competence? Have you gained a better understanding of other cultures? What will you take with you moving forward?

Reflecting is a process, and it is therefore important that you set aside time to write your reflections. What you have experienced may be different from what your classmate has experienced, and there are therefore no right or wrong answers.

Format of your reflection

Choose one of these formats to submit your reflection:

  • Written report: the text should be 1000 words
  • Oral report: create a podcast or video of about 2-3 minutes
  • Instagram report: at least three posts and a text of about 500 words

Final reflection

After you have completed three activities and submitted three reflections, it is time to write a more comprehensive final reflection in English. In the final reflection, you should describe the competencies you have developed, focusing on how they can be useful in the workplace.

Try to demonstrate your development from your first CIM activity to your last. Describe how you have been affected and how you may have influenced others around you.

You can choose to present orally or in writing:

  • Written report: The text should be approximately 3,000 words (Times New Roman, 12 points, 1.5 line spacing).
  • Oral report: Create a podcast of at least 5 minutes, or a video of at least 5 minutes.

The final reflection must be submitted no later than 4 weeks before you complete your studies at KI.

Four educational programs in the pilot

During the academic year 2025/2026, KI will implement the pilot project Certificate of International Merits (CIM) in four of KI's educational programs. The project will be evaluated after implementation to see if it should be implemented in more educational programs.

  • Occupational Therapy Program
  • Master's Program in Bioentrepreneurship
  • Master's Program in Translational Physiology and Pharmacology
  • Dental Program
