For students attending the course Clinical Genetics course code 2LK111

Clinical Genetics is a part of the course Clinical Medicine – Emphasis on Reproduction and Development.
Every doctor must be able to search and find current information on rare genetic diseases and be able to convey this information to a patient in a understandable way. They should also be able to write a referral for genetic testing or for genetic counseling.

Syllabus

These skills cannot merely be the responsibility of a few specialists, as rare genetic diseases affect up to 5% of the population and every doctor will come into contact with these conditions. To meet these goals, you will require deeper knowledge of the genetic mechanisms behind rare diseases and how patients can benefit from genetic counseling and genetic tests. You will also need in-depth insight in the ethical aspects of carrier testing and prenatal diagnosis.

The teaching of Clinical Genetics takes place as lectures and group exercises. Etc.
