Specific entry requirements

Specific entry requirements according to the programme syllabus of the Study Programme in Audiology, 180 HE credits.

Objectives

The course is included in a streak in professional development which includes total 6 HE credits and runs through all study programme.
The general aim with this streak is to give the student knowledge and tools to be able to develop an ethical and professional attitudes by developing both as an individual and in his professional role.

The expected learning outcomes of the course
On completion of the course, the student should:
- Explain and discuss the implication in central ethical concepts, norms and principles and view of the human and values within the care and the research
- Reflect on the concepts of confidentiality, professional secrecy and professional attitude in the professional role of the audiologist
- Analyse the contents in the professional ethical code of the audiologist and reflect on the areas of responsibility that are included in the professional status qualification of the audiologist
- Account for ethical perspectives on genetic issues within the audiological field that includes hearing impaired individuals
- Reflect on the role and adaptation of the audiologist to the professional and empathetic treatment of individuals with disability, handling pathological conditions and older
- Account for the instruction importance for the patient contact and how the treatment of patients is adapted to individual needs on a handling assessing audiological clinic
- Reflect on what that characterises good and poor scholarship
- Account for national and international professional ethical rules/statements
- Carry out cardiopulmonary.av resuscitation according to current guidelines from Swedish HLR-council

Content

Professional development 1, 1.5 hp The course material is presented on PingPong the platform Professional skills, where the different modules are presented.
On this web platform collects the student also his written assignments, reflections and other material to a so called portfolio that comes along through all modules in the streak.
The different modules in the streak are given not under some specific week during the semesters without different parts is either integrated in other courses or take place on distance via PingPong in parallel with other courses.

Specific contents of Professional skills 1:
In the course Audiology and handling health care be discussed central ethical concepts, confidentiality and professional secrecy and professional attitude in the professional role of the audiologist. Furthermore, seminars about communication and counseling are included.
The meaning of the professional status qualification of the audiologist and the Ethical code for audiologists are brought up in Hearing assessment 1 where also treatment of patients from individual needs is discussed and skills are trained in placement.

Ethical perspectives on genetic issues are concerned in Medical audiology.

Furthermore, an introduction to research ethics and to the concepts of good and poor Science both in Medical audiology is included and and in Scientific methods 1.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is trained at a compulsory exercise session.

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance at compulsory parts is also required. In case of absence from a compulsory part, the student gets an individual complementary assignment determined by the course coordinator. Students who have not passed the regular examination are offered a total of six examinations, of which the three last are provided in connection with the next regular course.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place under the previous reading list during a period of one year after the date of the renewal of the reading list. Examination will be provided during a period of two years after a close-down of the course.

Other directives

A study guide is distributed at the beginning of the course, comprising assessment criteria for examination, specific instructions for certain tasks, a timetable specifying compulsory parts, and a list of responsible teachers. Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education. Course evaluation will be carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course, and through an oral course forum at least once in connection with the course, where the students may express their opinions.
