Content

The course material is presented on the PingPong platform Professional skills, where the different modules are presented.
On this web platform the students also collect the written assignments, reflections and other materials in a portfolio, which follows throughout all modules in the streak.
The different modules in the streak are not given during any specific week of the semesters. The different parts are either integrated in other courses or given via PingPong, parallel with other courses.

Specific contents of Professional skills 1:
In the course Audiology and health, central ethical concepts, confidentiality and professional secrecy and professional attitude in the professional role of the audiologist will be discussed. Furthermore, seminars about communication and counseling are included.
The meaning of the professional status qualification of the audiologist and the Ethical code for audiologists are brought up in Hearing assessment 1, where treatment of patients based on individual needs is also discussed, and skills are trained in the clinical placement.

Ethical perspectives on genetic issues are addressed in Medical audiology.

Furthermore, an introduction to research ethics and to the concepts of good and poor science is included both in Medical audiology and in Scientific methods 1.

CPR for adults is trained at a compulsory exercise session.

Teaching methods

Seminars, lectures, exercises and own reflections.

Seminars and exercises are compulsory. In case of absence from a compulsory part, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator for a complementary assignment.

The course coordinator decides how absence from compulsory course elements can be made up. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator. Absence from a compulsory course element could mean that the student can not retake the element until the next time the course is offered.

Examination

Active participation in seminars and exercises
Individually written assignments and reflections

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance at compulsory parts is also required. Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. Each time the course is offered, one regular examination and two additional examinations are given.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place under the previous reading list during a period of one year after the renewal of the reading list. Examination will be provided during a period of two years after a close-down of the course.

Other directives

The course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of education. The course evaluation will be carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course, and through an oral course forum at least once in connection with the course, during which the students can state their opinions.
