Specific entry requirements

Specific entry requirements according to the programme syllabus of the Study Programme in Audiology, 180 HE credits.

Objectives

The course is included in a streak in professional development which includes a total of 6 HE credits and runs throughout the study programme.
The general aim of this streak is to give the student knowledge and tools to be able to develop an ethical and professional attitude and develop both as an individual and in the professional role.

The expected learning outcomes of the course
On completion of the course, the student should be able to:

  • compare and discuss differences between audiologists' ethical code and other professions' ethical code and comparing national and international differences
  • reflect on the professional attitude and what it means in professional and empathetic treatment of individuals with disabilities, and be able to link this to areas of responsibility that are included in the professional status qualification of the audiologist
  • explain the importance of instructions for the patient contact and how the treatment of patients can be adapted to individual needs at a hearing-assessing audiological clinic
  • reflect on ethical perspectives on genetic issues within the audiological field that include hearing impaired individuals
  • reflect on global health from an audiological perspective

Content

The course material is presented on the PingPong platform Professional skills, where the different modules are presented.
On this web platform the students also collect the written assignments, reflections and other materials in a portfolio, which follows throughout all modules in the streak.
The different modules in the streak are not given during any specific week of the semesters. The different parts are either integrated in other courses or given via PingPong, parallel with other courses.
During the course, core ethical concepts are discussed based on occupational codes and genetic perspectives. The course addresses the professional attitude in the professional role of the audiologist and the importance of patient history and patient instructions. In addition, the concept of global health is highlighted from an audiological perspective.

Teaching methods

Seminars, lectures, exercises and own reflections.

Seminars and exercises are compulsory. In case of absence from a compulsory part, the student is responsible for contacting the course coordinator for a complementary assignment.

The course coordinator decides how absence from compulsory course elements can be made up. Study results cannot be reported until the student has participated in compulsory course elements or compensated for any absence in accordance with instructions from the course coordinator. Absence from a compulsory course element could mean that the student can not retake the element until the next time the course is offered.

Examination

Active participation in seminars and exercises
Individually written assignments and reflections

For a Pass grade in the course, attendance at compulsory parts is also required. Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. Each time the course is offered, one regular examination and two additional examinations are given.

Transitional provisions

Examination may take place under the previous reading list during a period of one year after the renewal of the reading list. Examination will be provided during a period of two years after a close-down of the course.

Other directives

The course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines that are established by the Board of education. The course evaluation will be carried out both through a written course evaluation at the end of the course, and through an oral course forum at least once in connection with the course, during which the students can state their opinions.
