Specific entry requirements

At least the Pass grade in all courses from semester 1 and 2 in the Study Programme in Dental Hygiene

Objectives

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Define the concept of community dentistry and relate the spread of oral diseases to this and to a global perspective.
  • Provide a general account for how the dental care is organised in Sweden.
  • Explain the importance of science and philosophy of knowledge as well as its effect on development of teaching and research with a focus on oral health.
  • Describe basic learning psychology regarding man's cognition attitudes and behaviours and its impact in meeting patients.
  • Explain and understand the importance of the behavioural science perspective in communication with patients.
  • Proceed from the importance of the human rights when treating patients as well as reflect on the importance of an ethical and professional attitude.

Teaching methods

Lectures and seminars.

Examination

Written individual written assignment. Oral presentations in seminar.

To obtain the grade Pass in the whole course, it is required that the independent, written assignments achieve the grade pass with credit.

Limitations on the number of examinations or practical training sessions: Students who do not pass a regular examination are entitled to re-sit the examination on five more occasions. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination is given. Each occasion the student participates in the same test counts as an examination. Submission of a blank exam paper is regarded as an examination. In case a student is registered for an examination but does not attend, this is not regarded as an examination.

Transitional provisions

The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the autumn semester of 2019. Examination will be provided until the autumn of 2020 for students who have not completed the course.

Other directives

Course evaluation will be carried out according to the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
