Specific entry requirements
For admission to semester 2, at least 20 credits from semester 1 is required. Students who fail the work-based education or equivalent as a result of demonstrating such a serious lack of knowledge, skills or attitude that patient safety or patients confidence in medical care is jeopardised will only be authorised to carry out a new instance of work-based education once the individual action plan has been carried out.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should: - be able to account for clinical index that is used at diagnostics of periodontal tissues and caries lesions - be able to communicate basic caries prophylactic measures - be able to account for the gingival inflammatory process - be able to account for the theoretical basis of the effects of the non-surgical treatment on periodontal health - be able to account for the mineralisation of calculus, composition, structure and importance for the periodontal health - be able to account for the basic steps in the oral health care at communication and the cooperation with the patient - be able to account for the effect of the tobacco use on oral tissues - be able to and understand ergonomic aspects on the work situation of the dental hygienist.
Content
The course will address the dental hygienist profession in the clinical work and further develop the perspectives on the courses Dental prophylaxis 1 and 2. The course gives theoretical knowledge of non-surgical periodontal treatment methods and their planning, performing and expected results. It also gives advanced knowledge of communication between student and patient with starting point and consideration to the patient's all life environment. Relevant research results are discussed.
Teaching methods
The tuition forms consist of lectures, seminars and group exercises. To acquire necessary knowledge so, compulsory attendance and active participation apply in seminars, group work and auscultations. In case of absence, assignments that compensate the absence are provided.
Examination
The assessment of the students' achievements and knowledge take place through written examination. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions Student that is not passed after regular examination has the right to further two examinations. Is the student not passed after three examinations be recommended the student to go the course again at the next regular course date before. First after the student has reviewed the course again is offered further three examinations. Has the student carried out six failed examinations be given not any additional examination and the student is offered not any new admission.
Transitional provisions
Examination according to the earlier literature list of this course syllabus is provided a year from 2010-01-01.
Other directives
Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
