On completion of the course, the student should:

Content
The course contains exercises in scaling and rootplaning technique using a phantom model. The course introduces the student in clinical patient care that includes registration and diagnostics of periodontal and cariologic disease, treatment planning and non-surgical periodontal treatment.
The clinical proficiency training on patients is supplemented with patient communication considering the different stages of the dental care process.
Teaching methods
The learning is supported by seminars, demonstrations, group work, auscultations, pre-clinical exercises and clinical skills training under supervision. The course demands compulsory attendance and active participation. Absence from compulsory clinical parts will be compensated by the student himself/herself booking the corresponding number of clinic-based sessions, when access to a supervisor and clinic-based service is available.
Examination
Assessment of the student's clinical achievements and knowledge takes place during the course through presentation of skills at clinical examination and through written examination.
The course implies compulsory attendance and active participation in treatment of patients and at demonstrations, seminars and group work in the clinic. Absence of compulsory clinical parts will be compensated by the student alone booking equivalent numbers of clinic-based sessions.
Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions
Student that has not passed after regular examination has the right to further five examinations. If the student hass not passed after six examinations no additional examination or new admission to the course is given. As the examination session count the times that the student participated in one and the same sample. Submission of blank exam counts as examination. Examinations at which the student has registered but not participate are not counted as examination.
The examiner may with immediate effect interrupt a student's clinical skills training if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk. When the clinical skills training is interrupted like this, it implies that the student fails in the clinical part of the course. In such cases, an individual action plan should be set up, where it comes clear which activities and examinations are required before the student is given the possibility to clinical skillsy training in this course. Students who have failed the clinical proficiency training as a consequence of demonstrating deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes so serious that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk are qualified for reassuming the clinical skills training only when the individual action plan has been completed.
Transitional provisions
Examination according to the earlier literature list of this course syllabus is provided a year from 2013-01-01.
Other directives
Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by
