Specific entry requirements
At least 20 credits from semester 3. The clinical parts from the previous course should be approved. Students who have failed in the clinical rotation or the equivalent as a consequence of demonstrating serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitude, that the patient's safety or confidence in healthcare have been at risk is qualified for new placement only when the individual action plan has been completed.
Objectives
On completion of the course, the student should be able to: carry out clinical studies and classify periodontal disease and diagnose caries. - assess occurring risk factors for the oral health and involve these in treatment planning and treatment. plan and carry out individual behavioural medicine preventive conversation about health concerning caries and periodontal disease and patient-focused instruction in adequate oral hygiene measures. hygiene treatment of patients with implants. make evaluations of implemented treatment and when necessary revise treatment plans and plan and carry out maintenance programme apply knowledge of the damage effects of the tobacco and plan and start tobacco cessation. document in the patient's medical record according to current legislation, ordinances and safety regulations for safe care. explain indications for periodontal surgery and periodontal surgical methods. in interprofessional cooperation with dental student, learn through each other by plan and carry out treatment of a joint patient and have understanding of the importance of teamwork. - interact interprofessionally with other nursing professions in aim for the oral and general health.
Content
The course implies patient treatment where the student should under supervision examine, diagnose, treatment plan and treat adult patients with caries, gingival inflammation and periodontitis and patients with implant. The student should considering risk factors make prognosis of the oral disease development. In the course, it is included that the student should carry out individual conversation about health. The student should also be able to cooperate with dental student about patients. The course also contains treatment of the aging the patient. Documentation should take place in the medical record according to current legislation, ordinances and safety precautions for safe care of patient.
Teaching methods
The learning is supported by lectures, seminars, demonstrations, group work, auscultations and independent clinical exercises under supervision. The course comprises full-time studies.
Examination
Assessment of the student's achievements and knowledge take place during the course through presentation and of clinical skills at clinical final examination. The course implies compulsory attendance and active participation in demonstrations, seminars and group exercises in the clinic. Absence from compulsory clinical parts is compensated by the student himself/herself booking the corresponding number of clinic-based sessions, when access to a supervisor and clinic-based service are available. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions Students who have not passed the regular examination/assessment session are entitled to two more examinations. If the student is not approved after three examinations, he/she is recommended to retake the course at the next regular opportunity before three more examination opportunities are given. If the student has failed six examinations/tests, no additional examination or new admission to the course is given. The examiner may with immediate effect interrupt a student's clinical rotation (VFU), or the equivalent, if the student demonstrates such serious deficiencies in knowledge, skills or attitudes that patient safety or patient confidence in healthcare is at risk. When clinical rotation is interrupted according to this, it implies that the student fails in the current part, and that one clinical rotation opportunity is used up. In such cases, an individual action plan should be set up for required activities and examinations, before the student is given a possibility for a new clinical rotation in the course. Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Higher Education.
