Objectives

The course consists of 3 parts Part 1 Community dentistry I 1 HE credit On completion of the course, the student should be able to - account for how dental care in Sweden is legally regulated, organised and financed - identify similarities and differences between dental care nationally and internationally, from an organisational and epidemiological point of view - explain and evaluate how organised dental care can prevent disease through strategic actions towards groups of individuals rather than towards the individual Part 2 Community dentistry II, 1.3hp. On completion of the course, the student should be able to - describe and use, and evaluate methods to evaluate and safeguard the quality of his/her future dental activity - understand and analyse principles of population directed dental care and care prioritising - explain and evaluate the theoretical basis for a change of attitudes via knowledge dissemination - account for, explain and practise legal dentistry principles in the daily dental activity. Part 3 Teamwork II 0.7 HE credits. On completion of the course, the student should be able to - cooperate with a dental technician student about a casted design of a common patient - understand and explain the work of the dental technician work in the production of the casted design - cooperate with a dental hygienist student about a common patient with periodontal disease - understand that good communication in the interprofessional cooperation with a dental technician and a dental hygienist, is a prerequisite for a successful result.

Content

Part 1 Community dentistry I 0.8 HE credit The course will, based on the current regulations of the dental care, discuss practical applications in the clinical situation. Further, epidemiological concepts, important to the dental care, will be defined and set in relation to the dental care work at individual and group levels. Part 2 Community dentistry II 1.5 HE credits Lectures and exercises in evaluation and quality assurance of dental care activity. Continued discussion of health and dental care work at individual and group levels including methods for attitude changes. The dental care role in connection with patients' abuse (tobacco, alcohol, narcotics) will be dealt with in connection with the lectures. A section in the course is about legal dentistry and dental care certificates in various situations. Part 3 Teamwork II 0.7 HE credits The course comprises clinical collaborative projects between dental/dental technician students and dental/dental hygienist students who jointly carry out different dental care moments on common patients. Emphasis is placed on the communicative cooperation aspects.

Teaching methods

Part 1 and 2 Lectures, seminars, group assignments and case discussions. Part 3 Joint treatment planning and treatment of patients.

Examination

Part 1 and 2 The course is completed with an examination. Seminars and group discussions/presentations are compulsory. Study visits (planned i.a. in Hållpunkt Maria) should be carried out during the term upon individual agreement with the responsible dentist are compulsory. Part 3 Joint presentation of the treatment procedure and its results, written and in the form of seminars. Limited number of examinations or practical training sessions If the student fails, 2 more opportunities will be provided, primarily with a renewed written assignment. After that, the student is recommended to retake the course, and be given 3 more examinations. If the student has not passed after 6 trials, he/she has no more admission to the course. (HF chapter 6, section 11 a).

Transitional provisions

If the course is closed down or undergoes major changes, examination under a previous literature list and learning outcomes will be offered no more than one academic year after the implementation of the revision/close-down.

Other directives

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education.
