Study abroad for students attending the Master's programme in Biostatistics and Data Science

Within your study programme at Karolinska Institutet you have the the possibility to go abroad several times for internships.
- In the summer, between year 1 and 2
- In semester 4, for data collection during your degree project course
- After graduation
Internships during the summer
During the summer, between year 1 and 2, you are able to go abroad on your own.
This means that you organize an internship wherever you want in the world.
To obtain an Erasmus+ scholarship you need to be abroad at least 60 consecutive days and travel to one of the European Union's countries. On this page you can find out which are the European Union's country members.
Before you make any final arrangements with your supervisor abroad, you need to receive confirmation from your programme director at KI. Only when you have received his approval you can then secure the internship abroad and make any travel arrangements.
Documents for internships within the European Union (at least 60 days):
- Before you travel, you need to fill out a Learning Agreement for traineeships; when it's filled out and signed by your supervisor abroad, you can ask your programme director at KI to sign it too. When all parts have signed it you can send it to the contact stated at the contact of this page; after assessment and approval of the Learning Agreement you will receive an insurance certificate and a stipend form. The stipend form needs to be filled out and returned to the person you received it from;
- Before returning to KI, please ask you supervisor abroad to fill out the "After Mobility" page of the Learning Agreement and fill out and sign your "Certificate of Attendance"
- All your documents (including any visas if applicable) need to be finalized and sent in to the contact person below no later than 4-6 weeks before the end of the semester
Internships during the degree project course
During your degree project course at KI you are allowed to carry out your practical project work abroad. Because your study programme at KI at the moment doesn't have any official exchange agreements, you are encouraged to go abroad on your own. This means that you organize an internship wherever you want in the world.
To obtain an Erasmus+ scholarship you need to be abroad at least 60 consecutive days and travel to one of the European Union's countries. On this page you can find out which are the European Union's country members.
Students carrying out an internship outside the European Union will be eligible to receive insurance through KI, but not a stipend.
Before you make any final arrangements with your supervisor abroad, you need to receive confirmation from your degree project teacher at KI. Only when you have received his approval you can then secure the internship abroad and make any travel arrangements.

Internships after graduation
In conjuction with the end of your studies at Karolinska Institutet, you are allowed to go abroad for an internship if you register for such in your last semester of your studies, this simply because you need to be an active student at KI in order to be able to do an internship and receive an Erasmus+ scholarship.
This means that you organize an internship wherever you want in the world.
To obtain an Erasmus+ scholarship you need to be abroad at least 60 consecutive days and travel to one of the European Union's countries. On this page you can find out which are the European Union's country members.
Only students carrying out an internship after graduation within the European Union will be eligible to receive insurance through KI.

Important: Erasmus+ scholarship can only be paid for a maximum of 12 months during your Master's. This means, for instance, that if you have already been abroad during the summer (2 months) and during the 4th semester (5 months), you can only receive 5 months of scholarship.
