Introduction at Karolinska Institutet

KI and the Student Union are organising a number of introduction activities to give you as a global programme student or exchange student a smooth start to your studies at KI. Remember to register before 16 August 2024.

To start off your studies at KI in the best way possible, make sure to take part of our introduction activities. During the arrival days, students will be welcoming you at Arlanda Airport and help you find your way to local transport. KI and the Student Union are organising the introduction week with social and informative events, including the welcome ceremony. 

Register for the introduction activities

The registration link for activities arranged by KI is posted below. Be sure to register no later than 16 August. 

Student Union activities with Medicinska Föreningen (MF) and Mottagningsutskottet (MU, the Reception Committee) are arranged with separate registration. For registration, download the app Hitract to find more information and registration for their activities. Create an account in the app and search for “Mottagningsutskottet”. You can also follow the student union “Medicinska Föreningen" in the app for updates from them. 

Remember that the information concerning the activities might change, so make sure to check in here on a regular basis. 

Introduction schedule

⌚ 10 am - 8 pm

📍 Terminal 5 arrival hall, Stockholm Arlanda Airport

When planning your arrival at KI, make sure to arrive on one of the arrival days to enjoy the additional services offered. Our student guides will be welcoming you, look for KI signs and students with purple KI t-shirts. They are expecting you and will assist you to the Arlanda airport buses (Flygbussarna) or other local transport and show you how to buy tickets. 

If you arrive on any other day or time, you have to find your way on your own. 

Intro day and pub with the Student Union

To welcome you to Karolinska Institutet, the Student Union will arrange an intro day with social activities. You will be able to take tours of both the campus areas, have Swedish fika and mingle with new and current students. This will be followed by a pub night.

Wellbeing and studies at global university - part one

⌚ 10 am - 2 pm

📍 Lecure hall Jacob Berzelius, Berzelius väg 3 (BZ), KI Campus Solna

Take part in the first of two days focusing on wellbeing and what it is like to study at a global university in Stockholm, Sweden. Detailed program:

10.00-10.40: Introduction - Digital student Ambassador Yohannes Mengistu Balcha and the Student Union 

10.45-11.05: Student Wellbeing Centre - presentation

11.05-12.15: Swedish fika and hangout with students from your program

12.15-12.55: Thus Spoke the Swedes - how we address each other in Sweden, at a Swedish University and in the global classroom in general - lecture with Åsa Svensson, communications officer

13.00-13.45:  Q&A - Swedish healthcare and insurances 

Please note - if you are a native Swedish speaker at a global programme, you are welcome to join alternative activities after the Swedish fika at 12.15 pm. More information if you switch this webpage to Swedish.

Pub crawl and club with the Student Union

Join the Student Union on a Pub Crawl in the city, followed by a club hangout. 

Wellbeing and studies at global university - part two

⌚ 10 am - 3 pm

Take part in the second of two days focusing on wellbeing and what it is like to study at a global university in Stockholm, Sweden. Detailed program:

10.00-11.20: How to successfully study in Sweden in a global classroom - lecture and workshop with the Academic Writing Support

11.25-11.45: KI Health Hub - presentation

11.45-12.35: Swedish fika and find your group for the afternoon activities

12.40-13.40: Try our health promotion activities / Wellbeing workshop with the Student Wellbeing Centre

13.45-14.45: Try our health promotion activities / Wellbeing workshop with the Student Wellbeing Centre

Stockholm Stroll with the Student Union

Students from the Student Union will take you on a tour and show more of our beautiful town of Stockholm. 

Picknick day and MF-party with the Student Union 

⌚ 12 pm - 4 pm (picknick), 8 pm - 1 am (party)

📍 On the lawn outside the Library, Berzelius väg 7 B, KI Campus Solna (picknick)

📍 Medicinska Föreningen, Nobels väg 10, KI Campus Solna (MF-party)

Join the fun during Student Union picknick day and socialize with new and current students at KI, followed by the Medicinska Föreningen party in the evening.

Health Clearance (exchange students only)

If you are an exchange student and attending a clinical placement within Stockholm County Council (Region Stockholm), or services that have an agreement with Stockholm County Council, you must present with a health clearance (certificate). The purpose of the health clearance is to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases in healthcare work. You will be able to make health clearance test in the afternoon at the Student Wellbeing Centre.

Welcome ceremony 

⌚ 1.30 pm - 2.30 pm

📍 Aula Medica, Nobels väg 6, KI Campus Solna

You are invited to Karolinska Institutet’s international welcome ceremony in Aula Medica. During the ceremony, you will be welcomed by the president of KI, meet current students and learn more about what student life at KI has to offer. 

Fair

⌚ 2.30 pm - 4.30 pm

📍 Aula Medica, Nobels väg 6, KI Campus Solna

Take part in the fair where you can meet and mingle with the different support functions at KI available to you as student while enjoying a Swedish fika. You will also be able to pick up your KI backpack at designated stations. 

Please note! Bags larger than an A4 size sheet are not allowed into the venue!

Welcome to join the traditional Amphiox day. As a new student, you will be able to compete in the Amphiox Games to determine who the winning Amphiox team is. After the games there will be a so called fulsittning (theme dinner that is the opposite to fine dining), followed by an afterparty.
