A fellow’s perspective on the Executive health and diplomacy programme: Clélia-Elsa Froguel
The Executive Programme in International Politics and Diplomacy for Health brings together professionals from across sectors and gives them skills and tools needed to navigate complex political processes for health.
Among its fellows is Clélia-Elsa Froguel, Senior Director of Global Policy at AstraZeneca. She joined the programme to deepen her leadership skills and spark innovation.

“The programme gave me tools, a network, and hope to navigate global health as a collective”
Why did you participate in this programme?
Having worked in global health for fifteen years, I was looking for an executive programme that could inspire me to bring innovative ideas to life and strengthen my confidence in my own leadership style. The Executive Programme in International Politics and Diplomacy for Health offered a unique approach, a practitioner to practitioner methodology where you could spend time with the ones who have shaped global health and forge partnerships and collaboration with peers from different sectors.
The programme also came at a pivotal moment of profound uncertainty in global health. It provided the tools, the network – and the hope – to navigate these challenges collectively.
How has this programme helped you in your profession?
Meeting other fellows and faculty– including ministers of health from around the world, diplomats, academics, activists, and NGO partners – has been extremely valuable in navigating an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape. Coming from the private sector, I found it particularly useful to explore how we can collaborate to bring innovation to global health, and how we can collectively advocate for sustained investment in health.
How do you think this programme will impact or help your workplace?
I think it is useful for private sector to better understand how to navigate the politics of health - being able to have trusted fellows and faculty to test ideas and narratives with, has been very helpful for my work.
Personally, the programme has boosted my confidence to participate in public debates on reimagining global health governance. Since completing the fellowship, I’ve participated in public panels and roundtables to contribute to these discussions.
As a teacher – I also teach global health policy at Sciences Po – I’ve been able to bring new ideas, methodologies, and even faculty guests to my students. I would highly recommend this course to anyone working across global and regional political spheres to advance health policy reforms.
