Applying for a degree certificate
To receive your degree, you as a student must apply for your diploma yourself.

You can obtain a digital eduID and apply for your degree via Ladok if you have a Swedish personal identity number. If your student account is no longer active, you can apply via Ladok for alumni.
In Ladok, you can:

- You are responsible for ensuring that your application is complete. Before applying for graduation, it is crucial to verify that your personal information in Ladok is accurate:
- First name, last name, and personal identity number are retrieved from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to Ladok. These details in Ladok are stated in the diploma, and they cannot be changed afterward. If a preferred name is indicated in the population register, only the preferred name will be in Ladok. Therefore, if you want all your first names to appear on the diploma, you need to write a comment about this in your application or email examen@ki.se along with your application, as we do not amend this once your diploma is issued. Therefore, check how your first and last name are displayed in Ladok when you apply.
- If you have had a temporary personal identity number but have received a Swedish personal identity number from the Swedish Tax Agency, you need to notify us to have it changed in Ladok. Write a comment in your application or email examen@ki.se along with your application.
- Make sure that all courses to be included in the diploma are finalized in Ladok before submitting the application - otherwise, contact the relevant institution.
- If you are enrolled in a program and have courses from other institutions that should be included in the program, you need to ensure that you apply for credit transfer within your program and have them approved before applying for graduation.
- The diploma is issued in both Swedish and English. The diploma also includes an English description of your degree, known as a Diploma Supplement (DS).
- In the application form, you can leave a message. Your message is typically read when processing your case. If your case is urgent, you can email examen@ki.se.
- The date of issuance of your diploma is the date when the processing is complete and the diploma is issued, not when you submit your application or when you complete your last course within a program.
Your application is assessed against applicable national and local regulations. If the application is approved, a digital diploma with an e-stamp is issued, which you can download as a PDF file from Ladok. The diploma certifies that through your studies, you have acquired knowledge and skills up to a certain level and within a certain field. You can learn more about applicable regulations under Examination Regulations at Karolinska Institutet.
