The aim of this programme is to give you an understanding of the scientific basis of the subject nutrition, as well as its research methods, and thereby increase your competence to work in the field of nutrition and related areas, both nationally and internationally.

Year 1
Semester 1
- Diet and health – scientific evidence, recommendations and sustainability, 10 credits
- Molecular and genetic mechanisms in nutrition science, 10 credits
- Diet, Physical activity and fitness - assessment and evaluation, 10 credits
Semester 2
- Diet, physical activity and disease prevention – interventions, mHealth and eHealth, 15 credits
(For students starting 2024)
- Monitoring of non-communicable diseases, large scale data collection, analysis and data visualizations, 7 credits
- Diet and physical activity - interventions and digital health, 8 credits
(For students starting 2025 and later)
- Nutrition and disease – treatment and clinical aspects, 10 credits
- Professional development and communication in nutrition science, 5 credits
Year 2
Semester 1 and 2
The first semester includes studies about the relationship between diet and health and how different types of studies contribute to this knowledge. You will study the basis for different recommendations in diet and physical activity, where sustainability aspects are an essential part.
You will also get a broad understanding of molecular and genetic mechanisms, regarding the connection between diet and health, including methods for how to study these. Furthermore, the knowledge in measurement methodology for dietary intake, physical activity, fitness and muscle strength, as well as body composition is deepened, with a focus on understanding the methods' validity, applicability and evaluation of results.
During the second semester, you will study the importance of diet and physical activity, in both prevention and treatment of the most common global diseases related to diet and physical health. You gain an in-depth understanding of intervention studies, with special emphasis on the use of the internet (eHealth) or mobile phone technology (mHealth). You will also deepen your knowledge regarding nutrition-related diseases, their mechanisms and treatment at an individual level, with emphasis on the understanding of the scientific evidence for different types of diets. You will also develop your skills in popular science communication, the use of various media outlets as well as entrepreneurship.
The last year of the programme is where you get the opportunity to really deepen your knowledge in a specific field related to nutrition science. During the last year of the programme you can choose to do a 30, 45 or 60 credit degree project. And as part of the degree project, you can choose, based on your interest and previous experience, to explore both subject and method knowledge in a field of nutrition science. Examples include molecular, physiological, clinical, epidemiological or public health.
Depending on the length of your degree project, you can include up to 30 credits of elective courses.
Exchange studies
There are a few possibilities for exchange studies during semester 3 and/or 4 of the programme. You can search and apply for courses on your own (up to 30 credits) at another university and include them as elective courses in the programme or do your degree project abroad. For example, we have an exchange agreement with Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands for courses and with Deakin University in Australia for degree projects. Another possibility would be to find a project on your own at a university in another country and arrange your visit yourself.
