For students attending the course Epidemiological methods for studying the determinants of health (7.5 credits) course code 4FH086
The course focuses on epidemiological theory and practice. It comprises principles regarding design, analysis, and interpretation of epidemiological studies. It introduces the concept of causation, concepts related to study base, measures of disease occurrence and measures of association, effect measure modification, common designs for epidemiological studies (cohort studies, case-control studies, cross-sectional studies), and the role of bias.

Examination and compulsory participation
To pass on the course the student should show that the expected learning outcomes have been achieved. Two examinations are used.
One individual assignment that the student presents both written and oral. The student shall also be opponent to another student’s presentation. These two parts are graded with Fail/Pass.
A written home exam, graded with Fail/Pass/Pass with distinction.
Compulsory participation
The course director assesses if and how absence from compulsory parts can be compensated. Before the student has participated in compulsory parts or compensated absence in accordance with the course director's instructions the student's course results will not be reported to LADOK.
Course evaluation
Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education. Course council meeting is held with the course coordinator and student representatives.
