This course deals with current scientific evidence on the relationship between dietary factors, metabolic and hormonal regulation, as well as cellular and molecular mechanisms that are important in the development and treatment of lifestyle-dependent diseases. Syllabus

Introduction to the course

The course consists of two parts: The first part focuses on current methodology used in research on molecular and cellular mechanisms of nutrition, e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene modification. Ethical considerations in animal research are also addressed. 

The second part explores current scientific evidence on the relationship between dietary factors, metabolic and hormonal regulation, and cellular and molecular mechanisms relevant to the development and treatment of non-communicable diseases such as obesity, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer. 

The course consists of laboratory sessions, workshops, lectures and journal clubs. Assignments include a written exam, shorter written assignments, a longer individual written report and an oral presentation. You will be able to choose a topic of interest for the individual report.

Written Exams

Registration for written exams is mandatory and must be completed in Ladok no later than 10 days before the exam date. Detailed information about the exam, applicable regulations, and registration instructions will be published in the course room on Canvas approximately three weeks before the exam. Students who are not registered by the deadline will not be permitted to take the exam.
