In this course, you will learn about the associations between diet and health and the evidence behind dietary guidelines and nutrient recommendations. The concept of sustainability will be discussed, and the interaction between environment, nutrition, and health will be addressed from an individual to a global perspective. You will engage in writing scientific texts, communicating and discussing scientific information, and reflecting on your learning process.

Syllabus

Introduction to the course

The course deals with key concepts and methodologies in nutritional epidemiology. It covers different types of studies and methods for evaluating scientific evidence within the nutrition area, such as systematic reviews, meta-analyses and systems for grading the evidence. Basic biostatistics is also included. The principles behind nutritional recommendations and food-based dietary guidelines will also be dealt with. The concept of sustainability will be discussed from a global nutrition perspective, also taking the UN's sustainable development goals into account. We will further explore the environmental aspects of different diets and food groups. Applied learning will involve discussing, motivating and suggesting dietary changes to achieve a healthy and environmentally sustainable diet, based on scientific evidence.

Teaching and learning activities include lectures and seminars and exercises, which are largely based on discussions. The examination consists of a written exam and a written individual report. The examination also includes an oral presentation of a group work.
