The eye clinic at the Optometry program
Here Karolinska Institutet train the future opticians and specialists in clinical optometry. You are examined by students under supervision of teachers who are all licensed optometrists. we can offer vision examinations at lower prices and a range of frames and other viosn aids. No ordinary optician
All examinations and treatments that the students perform at the eye clinic are carried out under the careful supervision of a teacher. The examination can therefore sometimes take a little longer than "in town", see information about the various examinations to choose from below.
What can I get help with?
We offer different examinations during different periods, depending on which elements the students are learning at the time. Therefore, you always need to book an appointment in advance.
Eye examination
Time: 60-90 min, regular price: SEK 100, students with Mecenat Card: SEK 50
During an eye examination, you meet students who are in their second or third year of the optician program. They perform the examination under the supervision of their teacher, who is a licensed optician and optometrists. You get a prescription for glasses to take home with you at no extra cost.
Contact lens examination and fitting
Time: 90 min, regular price: SEK 100, students with Mecenat Card: SEK 50
During contact lens examination, you meet students who are in their third and final year of the optician program. They perform the examination under the supervision of their teacher, who is a licensed optician and optometrists. Sometimes one or more return visits will be required (free of charge), before you can get your prescription for contact lenses.
Eye health examination
Time: 90 min, price: SEK 490
During an eye health examination, you will meet a student who is already a licensed optician and who is further training to become a specialist in KI's master's program with a focus on eye diseases (clinical optometry). The student conducts the examination under the supervision of their teacher, who is a licensed optician and optometrists.
In addition to a regular eye examination where you get a spectacle prescription with you, we also screen for eye diseases. This means that we use pupil dilating eye drops when needed. This means that afterwards you will see a little blurred, mainly up close, and be a little light-sensitive, so we advise you not to drive a car immediately after the examination. And feel free to bring sunglasses!

We only accept payment by card or Swish. Exemption card does not apply.
Opening hours
During term time, the following opening hours apply, with lunch closed every day from 11.30-12.30.
Outside term time, the eye clinic and its store are closed.
Måndag 9.00-16.00
Tisdag 12.30-16.00
Onsdag 9.00-16.00
Torsdag 9.00-15.00
Fredag 9.00-15.00
After the examination, you can buy glasses, terminal glasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, eye health food and eye drops, etc. in our store, but the prescription you receive after your examination is of course valid at any optician.

We have our premises at St. Erik Eye Center of Excellence, Eugeniavägen 12 in Solna (diagonally opposite New Karolinska Solna's main entrance). The optician's eye clinic is located 1 flight upstairs, there is a lift. Go in and register in the store.
