For students attending the course Artificial Intelligence for Clinical and Biomedical Applications (4 credits) course code 4FF023
The aim of the course is to provide an overview of the applicability and use of ML/AI (Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence) in Life Sciences with the intention to deepen the student's understanding of the use of ML/AI in image analysis, drug discovery, and diagnostics/prognostics.
Syllabus
Schedule
The schedule is published no later than two weeks before course start.
About the course
This course introduces how machine learning and AI can be used as tools in life science and medicine, with one part focused on clinical applications (diagnostics, prognostics, medical imaging, clinical datasets) and a second part on biomedical and drug discovery use cases (protein structure prediction, in silico screening and molecular modelling). The course combines short lectures with hands‑on sessions in data analysis and visualization, as well as design workshops and seminars on ethics and real‑world implementation of digital solutions in healthcare. A 1–2 day visit to Digital Futures (KTH/KI/Stockholm University) gives students insight into cutting‑edge research environments and opportunities for networking with ongoing projects; Digital Futures is a cross‑disciplinary research centre in Stockholm that supports projects using digital technologies (including AI, data science and connected systems) to address major societal challenges, for example in healthcare, smart cities and industry. The course also includes online guest lectures from SENAI CIMATEC in Salvador and Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo, Brazil, where students hear how Brazilian teams use AI and large‑scale health data to address clinical and public‑health challenges, and it serves as an introduction to a mobility program in which students can develop project ideas and future exchanges together with Brazilian partners.
The course starts August 31 2026 and runs for 2,5 weeks with 100% tuition.
