Content and presentation

The Master´s Programme in Public Health Sciences gives insight into local and global public health challenges with the aim of improving the health of populations. Accordingly, the Department of of Global Public Health is dedicated to teaching, research and contributing to the policy dialog on public health.

The Master's Programme in Public Health Sciences consists of two years’ full time studies in the second cycle (Master’s level), amounting to 120 credits. The programme emphasises research and has strong links to various research groups at Karolinska Institutet.

The programme has two specialisations, Public Health Epidemiology and Health Promotion and Prevention.

Public Health Epidemiology - The specialisation has a focus on applied epidemiology, to develop the student's skills in describing, analysing and reflecting on different types of public health problems and evaluating interventions as well as in critical review of epidemiological studies.

Health Promotion and Prevention - In this specialisation, the emphasis lies on to applying methods for health promoting and preventive actions, to develop the student's skills in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating health promotion and preventive interventions on both individual and structural level.

The programme is built-up around joint courses for both specialisations equivalent one year of studies.

Examination of discontinued courses

2EE004 Project in public health for exchange students

The course has been cancelled and was offered for the last time in the autumn semester of 2008. Examination according to this syllabus will be provided until the autumn semester of 2024, for students who have not completed the course with a passing grade.

Programme outline 4FH07/4FH08/4FH10

As the programme has been updated all the courses has been given for the last time. Students who have not yet passed these courses will have the possibility to finalize the examination over the 1 year following the cancellation of the course.

The last opportunity to finish the courses will be in January 2025.

As the programme is from the autumn 2019 updated from 4FH17 to 4FH19, and all the courses has been given for the last time. Students who have not yet passed these courses will have the possibility to finalize the examination over the 2 years following the cancellation of the course.
