Master's Programme in Public Health Sciences

  • 120 credits
  • 2 years
  • Start of programme: Introductory week late August. Lectures begin 1 September, 2025.
  • Degree: Master of Medical Science (120 credits) with a Major in Public Health Sciences

Public Health Science involves promotion of health and quality of life, prevention of disease and improvement of health systems. The Master's Programme in Public Health Sciences has a multidisciplinary approach and a global perspective. The programme offers two areas of specialisation; Public Health Epidemiology, and Health Promotion and Prevention.

Programme presentation

The programme provides you with the opportunity to develop a scientific approach and gain a solid theoretical understanding of Public Health Sciences, with a focus on your chosen specialisation of Public Health Epidemiology or Health Promotion and Prevention. Both tracks include advanced studies in epidemiology and biostatistics as well as methods for outcome evaluation of interventions. Common courses also include concepts and theories in Public Health Sciences, qualitative approaches and project management.

With its focus on applied epidemiology, the Public Health Epidemiology track will give you the tools to describe, analyse and reflect upon a variety of public health issues and to critically review epidemiological studies.

In the Health Promotion and Prevention track, you will focus on applied methods for health promotion and disease prevention action, developing the skills to plan, develop, implement and evaluate health interventions at both individual and structural levels.
