About the programme
The programme gives you cutting-edge knowledge as well as essential practical and communication skills for an academic research career in biomedicine. It focuses on understanding disease mechanisms at a molecular level, particularly in the most common diseases, with the aim of developing future methods for diagnosis and treatment.
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world’s leading universities in biomedical sciences. The Master’s Programme in Biomedicine is strongly research-oriented and closely linked to KI’s renowned research environment, with clear integration into doctoral education. The programme emphasises fundamental biological knowledge and how it contributes to to drive medical development forward.
Specialisation and electives
In the first part of the programme, you build an advanced foundation in biomedicine based on your bachelor’s studies. You then develop an individual study profile by exploring one or more of KI’s research areas in greater depth. This is done by selecting elective courses, which you study together with PhD students, as well as choosing research area(s) for your independent research projects.
