Specific entry requirements

Standardised admission requirements F.1.1.

Objectives

* account for how various density differences of the organs are reproduced in the diagnostic image material. * identify and name anatomic structures in the diagnostic image material * use correct medical anatomic terminology in the description of the position of the organs. * explain and motivate the use of contrast medium in radiological examinations.

Content

The course takes its starting point in previously acquired knowledge in anatomy. On the basis of this knowledge, the student is trained to identify anatomic structures of thorax, abdomen and skeleton in the radiological illustrative material. This also includes studies performed with Magnetic resonance imaging and X-ray computed tomography. In the course, an adequate medical anatomic terminology based on the radiological illustrative material is trained. The course also treats how positive and negative contrast agents appear, and their usage in diagnostic imaging.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of lectures and image seminars.

Examination

The course is examined through individual written examination. To pass the course, a passed individual written examination is required. The student is entitled to a total of six test occasions to get passed. The course is given on three occasions. One within the course, one during the following re-examination. The third opportunity is provided before the beginning of the next semester, or in close connection to that. In some cases, it is required that the student submits an exemption application before he/she has the results of his/her latest completed examination. Three more opportunities are provided according to the same set-up when the course is given next time.

Transitional provisions

Course evaluation will be carried out in accordance with the guidelines established by the Board of Education at Karolinska Institutet.
